Since I wrote my blog on Maga I have been out on the lake and have seen the hippos. It was a lovely still day and it has left a lasting impression on me. I felt privileged.

- After a career in life assurance for longer than I care to admit I decided to do some work in developing countries. I tried to reeducate myself by studying international relations and then I signed up as a VSO volunteer. From March 2008 to March 2011 I worked as an Institutional Development Advisor to the Maga local council. Maga is a remote, poor and underdeveloped sub-division of the Far North region of Cameroon with a population of around 85,000. Life is very hard in Maga, the needs of its council and its people are enormous and I found many opportunities to add value. My three years there were the most fulfilling of my working life.
